An example of how the price of advanced technology comes down over time is shown with the LG Optimus One P500. If you buy this phone, you can own a genuine smartphone for a fraction of the price of most better known brands. In the following article, we will try to figure out if this phone is really a bargain or if you would be better off investing in a different smartphone.
While not as well known as other companies in mobile phone technology, LG Electronics has been in business since 1958 and are now gaining a hold in the smartphone marketplace. A lot of high tech devices are created by this company which is headquartered in South Korea. Recently they’ve been putting a lot of effort into their line of smartphones, which run on the Android operating system. The LG Optimus One P500 is one of their more popular models, and it provides a good, if basic smartphone for people who don’t want to spend a lot for their phone. This phone is also called the Optimus One in Europe and Asia and in the U.S, depending on the network it is called the Optimus S, Optimus T and the Vortex.
If you are in the U.S. and use the Verizon network, you may want to look into the LG Vortex, which is the same phone as the LG Optimus One P500. This is a good budget smartphone that uses Verizon’s reliable 3G network and comes with quite a few features for the price. You have, for example, Visual Voice Mail, which allows you to manage your voice mail messages in any order you want, without having to listen to all of them if you don’t want to. Another useful feature, but costs extra is VZ Navigator. If you want to get traffic alerts, voice prompted directions and the ability to search for popular points of interest all over the country, then this feature is something you will appreciate.
Unfortunately, although the LG Optimus One P500 is a good reliable phone, the sound quality isn’t always the best. Of course, which network you are using can be a factor in this area. One of the trade offs that you make with a budget phone as opposed to a higher priced phone is the crispness of the sound quality. Occasionally there will be distortion in the background which lets people know you are using a cell phone instead of a land line, but most of the time the calls are clear enough not to cause any problems. Volume control on the speaker phone can cause issues even though the speaker phone itself works well.
If you are looking for your first smartphone and are on a limited budget, the LG Optimus One P500 is a good choice. Obviously it won’t give you all the features and high end performance that a more expensive phone gives. For the price of an ordinary cell phone, the LG Optimus One P500 is a decent smartphone.
